The client consortium was responsible for constructing the New Safe Confinement, a massive steel arch designed to secure the damaged Chernobyl reactor for the next 100 years. The project required international collaboration and the mobilization of highly qualified experts across engineering, construction, safety, and commissioning disciplines.
The main challenges included recruiting and deploying certified professionals for work within a high-risk, high-security nuclear environment, subject to stringent radiation protection protocols. Additional complexity stemmed from managing logistics and administrative compliance in a restricted-access area near the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
