Since 2018, Jean-Luc joined WATA Global, subsidiary of IOTA Group. On a daily basis, he develops new markets, and works to the satisfaction of our clients, consultants, partners in Uganda. Discover his interview: Could you please introduce your professional path? After my graduation, in a classical way, I joined a French major Oil and Gas company where I discovered the petroleum world under its multiple aspects and its human capital wealth. During more than thirty years, I travelled all over the continents and countries where I learnt and worked in different professions in Exploration and Production. I lived many years in Africa (Gabon, Congo, Nigeria), in Europe (France obviously, Netherland, Russia) and also in Asia (Indonesia). All these secondments offered me extraordinary opportunities to learn and transmit in many aspects as HSE (RSES, Integrity manager), project (field operations project manager, Commissioning manager), field operations (Site manager, contract, maintenance and inspection manager) in a multicultural environment. In 2018, I decided to discover new challenges, to have pleasure and transmit my experiences within IOTA group. As a resident Manager, what is your role? The role of Resident Manager is primarily for me a role as moderator, unifying multicultural teams. Beyond the constant search for excellence for our clients, the resident manager must know the professions for which he seeks profiles, to be able to dialogue and understand his clients and to animate, motivate, his teams in accordance with the framework and the Strategy set by the IOTA group Toward which markets would you like to make evolve WATA Global Uganda? Uganda is a very rich country by its history, culture and environment (Faunas and Flores) and opens up to a very promising industrial development, particularly in the Oil and Gas. At first, we are very much oriented towards the great TILENGA project and its EACOP pipeline which will cross Uganda from north to south and then Tanzania from west to east to finally reach the port of TANGA. We will be attentive to the strong project needs of the operators that are TOTAL, TULLOW and CNOOC but also of all the subcontractors in engineering, logistics, construction, and operations, which accompany this titanic development spread over several Years. Based on our subsidiary Techma Support, IOTA Group and its local affiliate Wata Global (U) LTD will also have to set up and export in Uganda Training solutions for national staff that will one day take over the operations of the facilities. How would you describe the business climate for those who are considering opening a branch in Uganda? The Ugandan authorities are very supportive of the arrival of experts for its industrial development projects but in return requires transparency, respect for national rules in particular the local content and especially the transmission and Training for young Ugandan generations. We are also fortunate to have at our side a very dynamic French diplomatic representation in Kampala. What is your recruitment/development strategy today? In Uganda everything is to be done and therefore at first, we will source recognized experts in order to meet the requirements of the project which will allow us in a second time to prepare, to train nationals to take the succession in the phases of start-up and operating facilities. We will also rely on our subsidiary IOTA Kenya to source talents for Uganda and for our operations in Tanzania. After more than ten years working in the Oil & Gas sector in Gabon, as a Logistics Manager in a drilling company and two years in Kenya as a consultant in operational management and logistics, I joined IOTA Group in 2018. With 12 years of experience in Africa, I bring to the group my knowledge in multiple fields. As a Business Development Consultant, what is your role? As a Business Development Consultant, my role is to develop our client portfolio in the East African region. Based in Nairobi, I mainly cover Kenya. I also bring my expertise to the group in the establishment of our subsidiaries in the East African area. What are your goals for IOTA Group in Kenya? Accompanying our clients around the world, we come today to support their activities, especially for oil projects in the region. In Kenya, a pipeline project from the Turkana fields to Lamu port is of great interest to our clients and therefore to us. Taking advantage of a synergy around the Oil & Gas sector, I would like tomorrow to see IOTA Kenya present in very promising sectors in the country, like Telecoms, Aeronautics, Geothermics and Civil Engineering. See what Benjamin has to say about his role: How long have you been working at IOTA GROUP ? I have been with the family business of IOTA for almost 8 years. Starting in 2011 as a Business Development Manager in France with IOTA Industrie, responsible for developing the business activities of this branch. I was afforded the opportunity to progress with IOTA Group and moved to the United Arab Emirates as the Resident Manager in October 2012. Where I coordinate the business interests of this and the new IOTA Qatar branches, with responsibility for the Middle East. As a Resident Manager, what is your role ? My role as Resident Manager is to enact the IOTA GROUP Strategy, within my sphere of responsibility. I actively seek new business opportunities within our sector, accompanying our team locally to pursue business leads and support our clients, consultants and partners. I feel like the ‘Conductor of and Orchestra’ as I coordinate the different parts of the business in the Middle East, which is a challenging everchanging environment. My team are responsible for overseeing complex projects across the region, which often require a high degree of involvement and technical expertise. The Middle East presents its own challenges and is a complex ever-changing region. I work daily towards the success of the IOTA Group both Globally and in the Middle East in their business sector. What are your goals for IOTA Group in the Middle East? From 2017 there have been two major developments concerning the IOTA Group in the Middle East, which allow our company to be a major player in the Middle East: In 2017 the IOTA GROUP acquired TECHMA, a Dubai based company, which delivers training and emergency response management solutions (Health and Safety accredited training, Emergency Response accredited training and Emergency Response Team management). In 2018 the IOTA GROUP opened a new branch in Qatar to provide closer support to our Qatari clients, consultants and partners. We have become a major player in the Middle East, continuing to deliver solutions in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Yemen. We continue to be innovative and provide bespoke solutions to assist our clients in their business aims and deliver their projects. We respect the rules of the host countries and proactively seek to comply with these. Today, what is your recruitment strategy? I actively support the IOTA GROUP recruitment strategy, complying with the group guidance, but adapting to the regional needs and challenges. We are seeking to provide a more representative ‘regional’ profile, actively engaging in recruiting local nationals for the host country. We have already achieved this with an Emirati working for IOTA Abu Dhabi, a Qatari working for IOTA Qatar and Iraqis working for TECHMA in Iraq. This demonstrates the goal of IOTA GROUP in supporting local resourcing where appropriate. With some of our client requirements presenting rare qualification combinations has some real challenges in the acquisition of suitable talent to fulfil these roles, which is a real challenge to our development. Our aim is to make every employee a ‘Brand Ambassador’, which helps us attract the best candidates. We seek to develop our candidates to meet the role requirements and with the contribution of TECHMA bespoke solutions we can train our candidates to meet the challenges, if the candidates are not readily available. Holder of a University Degree, DEUG, in philosophy, I started my career as a Shipping Agent for a company specializing in maritime services for ten years. Thereafter, I worked as a flight coordinator for the Gabonese company in charge of National Protection for five years.Since July 2017, I joined IOTA Gabon because I wanted to evolve in a human-sized company with an international dimension. What does your job at IOTA Group entail? My current position is mainly to deal with international and national arrivals, clients and consultants working with IOTA Group.My job is to cover the costs of VISA and other airport assistance at Libreville International Airport.My work serves the best interests of the company when we respond with quality the services we offered to our clients. That is: punctuality, speed and efficiency.Our action generates the satisfaction of our clients, who in return communicate positively about our services. After obtaining a Master’s degree in Economics in Libreville, Gabon, I passed the entrance examination for the Ecole Normale Supérieure as a student teacher. Due to lack of opportunity in the public sector, I headed towards the private sector. I started working in a company specializing in seismic studies and geological prospecting for the oil industry. Thereafter, I evolved in a Public Works and Civil Engineering company. In 2013, after hearing about a company in full expansion in Gabon, offering great career prospects, I joined IOTA Group as Logistics Officer. What does your job at IOTA Group entail? As a logistics officer, I help make life easier for our local and expatriate consultants, who are planning projects in Gabon. My role is to welcome new employees, but also to manage the administrative obligations (VISA) and legal (taxes). I also help to prepare the expatriation of our consultants (medical visits, communicate information about Gabon to the employee and his family, cash supply for the first days on the spot), and remains at the disposal of the latter during transfers and emergencies. My function is transversal to the other services. I consider myself a real ambassador for the IOTA Gabon brand, because I am the first contact during the visits of our customers and our consultants. Why did you choose to join IOTA Group? I like working at IOTA Group because this company asks me to be rigorous, empathic, available, but especially to listen to the women and men with whom we work. Read his interview: Tell us about your career path?After my Engineering graduation in 2004, I started working for 3 years in the Automotive Industry. While the overall market was going down, I took an opportunity to join a major Engineering company from the Oil & Gas sector. During 7 years, I worked several positions and have been involved on major International projects.In 2014, I joined a major French O&G Actor as a consultant. I was first involved on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract, but after a few months, the Oil&Gas crisis started. Significant organisation changes began and I switched to Exploitation Division acting as coordinator for the metal services of Offshore platforms in maintenance.By the end of 2015, I came back to France and joined IOTA Group. Since then, I am working as a consultant Global Project Manager for a European industrial group, which manufactures products and provides ad hoc solutions. As part of your responsibilities, do you travel often?Yes, I traveled to Romania, Dubai, and Singapore. I am currently involved in the execution of projects and leading the different External suppliers. Engineering and Manufacturing offices are located in many different countries, so we regularly meet our suppliers in their premises. Why did you choose assignments abroad?My past experiences through Expatriation have been really positive on both personal and professional aspects. I am currently based in France, but it is part of my short term plan to find another assignment abroad. Why did you choose to work for IOTA Group?During my last expatriate assignment in Congo, I met IOTA Group.This is a well recognized company in recruitment, expatriation, and especially in the Oil&Gas sector. Discover his interview: Tell us yout career path?After studying engineering in Electromechanics in Germany, I wanted a life of adventure and I started my career at the French Foreign Legion. For 5 years, I was an instructor in Close Combat.Afterwards, I joined one of the leaders in the design, manufacturing and installation of IPB and SPB. I coordinated the construction and commissioning of these solutions around the world.After 27 years in the same company, I wanted to change, so I joined IOTA Group on behalf of a global company specialized in high technologies. In your work, what exactly do you do?Today, I am building 220kV Switchgears* across 5 continents, especially in India (assembly, complex problem solving and commissioning). What I like about this job is the challenge of interacting with companies all over the world and discovering new cultures. Why did you choose missions abroad?I like working with other experts with multidisciplinary knowledge. My main motivations to work abroad are transmitting my know-how, learning in return, and confronting cultural and linguistic barriers. Why did you choose to join IOTA Group?I discovered IOTA Group through other consultants in the Industry and Energy sectors. Do you have an anecdote to tell us?If you come to Assiut in Egypt and ask for Mr. Wolf, everyone knows me! I trained 25 Karate-Club in the Kumite (conventional karate fight). I did the same thing in Northern Mexico at Piedras Negras. I also played in the football team of this Mexican city and we became Champions of the country. We went on television and in the Mexican newspapers! Since 2016, Omar has joined IOTA Group as a Telecom Project Manager. During his current mission in Gabon, he works for a French leader in the petroleum industry. Discover his interview: Tell us your career path?In 2006, after obtaining my diploma in telecom and networks engineering, I started working with a major Tunisian telecommunication satellite operator. Thanks to favorable economic conditions, I subsequently integrated the Satellite service as an optical fiber and satellite expert for one of the world’s largest telecommunications operators. In 2013, I joined the French leader in the oil&Gas industry as a Transmission Supervisor in Gabon. I was in charge of the operation and maintenance of the telecom infrastructure interconnecting its various Onshore and Offshore sites. I was juggling several technologies such as WIMAX, VSAT, microwave links, VHF radios and Fiber Optics. Since 2016, I joined IOTA Group as a Telecom Project Manager for the same oil&gas company. In your work, what exactly do you do?I work mainly in the management of telecom projects, technical assistance to the head of telecom department, and monitoring of the quality of operations and interventions. For the first quarter of 2017, the two major projects in place are the interconnection to the ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) Fiber and the deployment of the new PAGA system on the Offshore platforms. In the medium term, it will be necessary to analyze recurring problems, propose a plan of action, and drafting specifications for the separation of the telecom infrastructures by creating redundancy on inter-site transmission links. In the long term, it is the evolution of the transmission network in question, by renewing the obsolete equipment with new compatible equipment with the new needs. Why did you choose missions abroad?International experience is the key to professional success and greatly expands the individual horizon. This is an opportunity to meet new challenges and to further develop my technical experience that I have acquired in the two major telecommunications operators since 2006. Moreover, when an oil giant recruits you internationally , the choice becomes very easy, both professionally and personally. Why did you choose to join IOTA Group?I chose IOTA Group for its international dimension due to its wide network of consultants and recognized experts. It’s presence in Gabon and Tunisia (my native country) reinforced my selection. Furthermore, my choice was confirmed during my first interview with the Resident Manager of IOTA Gabon in Port Gentil. I thank him for his openness, transparency, and clarity of his answers to my questions. Do you have an anecdote to tell us?In 2014 in Gabon, with friends, we organized a whale watching trip. We were a dozen people. The trip started at 8:00 am, and the closest whale that we could see was 200 meters from the boat. At noon, a little disappointed, we decided to go back to the harbor and take a break. On the way back, we saw 3 whales that were jumping and only 50 meters away from us! The show was awesome!

As Country Manager, what is your role?In IOTA Tunisia, we create Talent Resourcing solutions adapted to the customers’ requirements. As Resident Manager, my role is to develop new opportunities in our sectors of activity. Today, we work mainly with the oil and gas, construction, telecom and renewable energies industries.
